Friday Message from the President: A time for patience and resilience
Hello CapU,
Today marks the end of the final examination period for the Spring Term. I’m sure this meets with a sigh of relief from many of you. Faculty now turn their efforts to the work of marking, evaluating and posting results. This phase of the academic year is an example of how much goes on, by so many individuals, behind the scenes at CapU. By extension, I can only imagine the complexity of considerations the Province must be addressing daily to prepare plans for the weeks and months ahead.
As Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry said yesterday, now is “a time for patience and resilience.” In the Province’s daily updates we hear the constant refrain, that now is the time to hold the line. In my own experience, hold the line can be three of the most difficult words to say, especially when they are hard to hear. We are all missing something, or much, from the way things were, even when we can perceive the opportunities in what might be.
In Dr. Henry’s appeal to everyone in British Columbia to be careful and thoughtful at this time, there are no shortcuts. We will get there together taking every step with care. In the meantime, I thank you for how far we’ve come.
