DESCRIPTION:The Montreal-based Ron Di Lauro Sextet, known for its sophisticated arrangements and emotive performances, and recently, the incredibly astute homage it pays to Miles Davis’ iconic album Kind of Blue. Widely regarded as one of the greatest jazz albums of all time, the record’s modal-jazz cool revolutionized the genre in 1959. Ron Di Lauro Sextet’s interpretation captures the spirit while infusing it with a modern sensibility, blending its timeless qualities with the individual voices of the musicians. Ron Di Lauro, a highly skilled and seasoned jazz trumpeter, is recognized for his ability to blend intricate technical mastery with an emotive, soulful performance style. Leading the sextet, he channels the essence of Davis, whose playing was characterized by lyrical beauty and understated yet profound adventurism. The sextet’s lineup includes trumpet, saxophone (tenor and alto), bass, drums, and piano, with each member contributing to the rich, nuanced sound of the ensemble.
