Hire a Co-op Student

  • Our Tourism Management programs incorporate work experience as part of the overall education in order for students to develop meaningful connections between the theory of the classroom and reality of the workplace. Employers become 'co-educators' for the duration of the student work term. The practicums and co-op is overseen by a faculty member, and students interact with the university regularly while on their work term.

    Co-op (short for cooperative education:) are paid work experiences which are regulated and accredited by the Association for Cooperative Education and a national board. Students must complete preparatory courses and meet a number of requirements before engaging in a co-op.

    Bachelor of Tourism Management and Tourism Management Diploma
    Focus of work terms: any of the tourism sectors of interest to the student.
    Co-op length: 4 months (500 hours)
    Co-op timeframe: May - August
    Employer requirements: Complete Student-Employer work term contract, provide job description, review student learning objectives, engage in faculty site visit mid-way through the co-op, complete student evaluation at end of work term.

    Tourism Management Diploma for International Students
    Focus of the practicum: any of the tourism sectors of interest to the student.
    Practicum length: 8 weeks (unpaid)
    Co-op timeframe: August/September
    Employer requirements: Complete Student-Employer work term contract, provide job description, review student learning objectives, engage in faculty site visit mid-way through the co-op, complete student evaluation at end of practicum.
