About Squamish Campus
The Campus
Capilano University’s Squamish campus, established in 1973 to serve the Howe Sound communities of Squamish, Whistler, Mount Currie and Pemberton, offers courses in arts & sciences and preparatory studies, as well as programs in Wilderness Leadership, Destination Resort Management, Business Fundamentals and Applied Business Technology Online.
Squamish—the Outdoor Recreation Capital of Canada
The Squamish campus is located, fittingly enough, in the community of Squamish, just sixty kilometers north of Vancouver. Its enviable location (midway between Whistler and downtown Vancouver) has helped it earn the title as the Outdoor Recreation Capital of Canada. Other factors that have made us an outdoor recreation hotspot are:
Biggest granite on the planet
The Stawamus Chief is not only a freestanding piece of granite, it’s the second biggest piece of freestanding granite in the world. Not B.C. Not Canada. The world. Not surprisingly, it has made Squamish one of the primo mountain climbing destinations anywhere.
Mountain biking that will test your mettle
The annual Test of Metal—a grueling 67-km mountain bike race—is considered one of the premiere cross-country mountain bike races in North America.
You’ll even want to visit our divey places
It’s hard to beat the scuba diving at Porteau Cove Provincial Park. There are more than 100 marine species to see, and the views of Howe Sound are nothing short of spectacular.
Surf city
Squamish means “Mother of the Wind” in Coast Salish. For everyone else, it means “Surf’s up!” That’s because the winds which form in the north before noon and blow non-stop till dusk make Squamish a top-tier wind surfing destination (not to mention host to the annual PROAM sailboard races).
