• Dial 911 In Case of Emergency!

    Bomb Threat

    • While rare, bomb threats are typically received by telephone or letter. We take all threats seriously and we respond under the assumption an explosive device is on campus.

What do I do if I receive a bomb threat?

If you receive a bomb threat by phone:

      • Try to keep the caller on the line as long as possible to gather information.
        • Ask questions such as:
          • When will the bomb explode?
          • Where is the bomb? What does it look like?
          • Why did you leave the bomb on campus?
          • Where are you? Who are you? Where do you live?
      • Take note of the caller’s:
        • Voice (accent, volume, etc.).
        • Estimated age.
        • Emotional state (angry, agitated, upset, etc.).
      • Take notes.
      • Alert someone near you for assistance (e.g. by waving your arm or passing a note).
      • Get someone to call Campus Security at 604.984.1763 immediately and state BOMB THREAT.
      • Inform your supervisor/instructor.
      • Remain calm and wait for further instruction from Campus Security.

If the threat is received via email:

      • DO NOT reply, delete or forward.
      • Contact Campus Security immediately for assistance.

Campus Security is in control at the scene of the incident unless emergency responders have assumed responsibility. The authorities will make the decision to allow occupants to re-enter any closed or evacuated building.
