Borrowing Guidelines for Non-Students

    Library Cards

    Cards are issued at the Library Check Out counter. Borrower categories include the following:

    • Community Borrowers: To receive a library card, two pieces of valid identification are required (one piece a photo ID and one with a current address). Fees are $25/year plus $2 for the card (this also serves as a copy card). Cards are valid for 1 year.
    • Continuing Education students: In order to borrow books and use library electronic resources, a Continuing Education student is required to present his/her current student card at the library Circulation Desk.
    • Eldercollege students: To receive a library card, an Eldercollege Membership card or Eldercollege Group Facilitator's card is required, along with two pieces of valid identification (one piece a photo ID and one with a current address). There are no fees but you must purchase a $2 library card (this also serves as a copy card). Cards are valid until the last day of program enrollment.
    • Reciprocal Borrowers: To receive a library card, you must be a student at a BC university or college included in the BC Post-Secondary Reciprocal Borrowing Initiative and provide proof of current registration status, along with two pieces of valid identification (one piece a photo ID and one with a current address). There are no fees but you must purchase a $2 library card (this also serves as a copy card). Cards are valid until the end of the Capilano University spring semester.

Borrowing Restrictions

Maximum Number of Loans

Up to 5 books or CDs can be borrowed at one time. DVDs and videos may be viewed at viewing stations in the AV Department, but due to licensing restrictions DVDs and videos are not available for loan to non-students (with the exception of the math "Video Tutor" series).

Interlibrary Loans

ILL privileges are not available.

Periodicals & Reserves

Periodicals and course reserve items are not generally available for loan but Continuing Education students may borrow course reserve materials that have beeen set aside for their use.

Database Access

All borrowers can access the Library's collection of subscribed databases from on-campus. Due to licensing restrictions, only Continuing Education students and instructors can access these databases from off-campus.
