ESL Students

The Financial Aid and Awards Office has five (5) awards available for ESL students.  For more information, please download the following pdf file ESL Handout.

    General information

    The Financial Aid and Awards Office accepts applications for the Fall and Spring semesters for scholarships, bursaries and awards administered by the University.  Applications are available to students online and in the Financial Aid and Awards Office, from mid July to mid September, for the Fall semester and from mid November to mid January, for the Spring semester.  Completed applications must be submitted by the deadlines listed below.  Late applications will not be accepted.

    2009/2010 application deadlines are:

    FALL SEMESTER (September to December)
    September 21, 2009 @ 4:30 p.m.

    SPRING SEMESTER (January to April)
    January 15, 2010 @ 4:30 p.m. 

    Complete only one online general application (General Scholarship application and/or General Bursary and Award application, or First Semester Award application) each semester.

    The Minimum Eligibility Criteria for University Scholarships are:

    • A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50
    • Completion of at least 12 credits at the 100 level or higher at Capilano University
    • Current enrolment in at least 12 credits at the 100 level or higher at Capilano University
    • New students enrolled in their first semester at Capilano University may only be considered for the First Semester Award

    The Minimum Eligibility Criteria for College Bursaries and Awards are:

    • A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50
    • Completion of at least 9 credits* at the 100 level or higher at Capilano University
    • Current enrolment in at least 9 credits* at the 100 level or higher at Capilano University
    • New students enrolled in their first semester at Capilano University may only be considered for the First Semester Award

    * 6 credits for students with permanent disabilities who have been approved by the Disability Services department at Capilano University to study at the reduced course load (supporting documentation will be required).

    Applicants must demonstrate financial need not met by other available sources of funding including student loans, grants, sponsorship, work earnings, assistance from family, etc.

    Other Criteria:

    Some awards are available to students in any program.  Other awards may have restrictions based on the donor’s request:

    • Restricted to students enrolled in a specific program of study
    • Restricted to students enrolled in a specific year of a program
    • Restricted to students active in the University or community
    • Restricted to students residing in a specific city/area
    • Restricted to students with disabilities or training to work with persons with disabilities
    • Restricted to students with a First Nations heritage

    Students receiving an award will be notified by mail. Please ensure your mailing address is correct with the Registrar's Office.
