Capilano University/UBC Speech Science Degree

Are you interested in speech sciences, speech pathology and rehabilitative medicine? UBC and Capilano University have combined to offer an exciting dual credential; Rehabilitation Assistant Diploma (Capilano University) + Speech Science Degree (Linguistics Department, UBC with Bachelor of Arts BA).

Why would I want to do this?

This exciting dual credential provides more career options as you will have the practical training and experience in the rehabilitation field, as well as the opportunity to apply to the graduate program in Speech Language Pathology, Audiology, Occupational Therapy or Physical Therapy.

How do I do this?

TWO OPTIONS:

Option 1:

  1. Begin by applying to Capilano University's Rehabilitation Assistant diploma program.
  2. During the first year, let the Rehabilitation Assistant program coordinator know you are interested in attending UBC to complete the degree in speech science.
  3. Complete the Rehabilitation Assistant program in 1.5 years.
  4. In September of your second year, apply to UBC as a 2nd year undergraduate student.
  5. Finish the Rehabilitation Assistant diploma in December.
  6. Begin UBC Speech Science courses in January of 2nd year.
  7. Complete B.A. at UBC with specialty in Speech Sciences.
  8. When you graduate you will have both the Rehabilitation Assistant Diploma as well as your degree in Speech Science.

Option 2:

  1. Begin by applying to Capilano University's Rehabilitation Assistant diploma program.
  2. Complete the Rehabilitation Assistant program in 1.5 years.
  3. Work as a Rehabilitation Assistant.
  4. When the time comes that you want to pursue a Speech Science degree at UBC, contact the Advisor in Speech Sciences area of B.A. indicating you have RADP Diploma from Capilano University.
  5. Complete B.A. as usual.
  6. When you graduate you will have both the Rehabilitation Assistant diploma as well as your degree in Speech Science.
