The following awards are specific to the Music Therapy program:
Capilano University Entrance Excellence Award for Music Therapy
Fall
The University recognizes the top Music Therapy applicant each year. The appplicants are assessed through the audition-interview process. The top applicant will receive a scholarship that will be applied to their first semester tuition. Application through Financial Aid required for this award.

Kay Wilson Memorial Award
Fall
This award is established in memory of a psychotherapist and pianist, Kay Wilson. The award is supported by one of our Librarians; she believes the Music Therapy program best reflects Kay's interests and values.

Shakespeare Family Fund Award for Music Therapy
Fall and Spring
The Shakespeare Family has created a fund to support two awards each year. The family recognizes the distinct contribution Music Therapy makes to children in need.
Award value last year: $600 in the Fall term, $600 in the Spring term.
Bill Ekins Memorial Music Therapy Scholarship
Spring
This scholarship has been created to honour the life and friendship of Bill Ekins, who died unexpectedly in 2004. Bill led a life of volunteerism, creativity, inspiration and humour. This award is given to a Music Therapy student who demonstrates excellence in academics and practicum or internship.

Billy Rhodda Memorial Music Therapy Scholarship
Spring
Billy was a vibrant and creative man who loved life and prized his daughter Virginia. He died at the age of 36. This scholarship is given to a Music Therapy student who demonstrates creativity, leadership and excellence.

Brian Beaudoin Memorial Music Therapy Scholarship
Spring
Brian valued volunteerism, the deaf community and the rights of people with handicaps; he died at the age of 27. The award is given to a Music Therapy student who demonstrates volunteerism, compassion and excellence.

Carolyn Kenny Music Therapy Scholarship
Spring
The award recognizes the contributions Carolyn made to Canadian Music Therapy. The scholarship is given to a Music Therapy student who demonstrates compassion to others, appreciation of cultural identity, and self-awareness in the clinical setting.

Evelyn Hildebrant Memorial Music Therapy Scholarship
Spring
Evelyn was gentle and passionate woman working in the health care industry. She was a social activist, and she loved science fiction. She died at the age of 34. This scholarship is given in her honour to a Music Therapy student who demonstrates teamwork and excellence in the classroom and practicum.

Gordon Hewitt Memorial Music Therapy Scholarship
Spring
Gordon was a graduate of the Capilano University program and an active Music Therapist in the Vancouver area. The scholarship is given to a Music Therapy student demonstrating excellence and community involvement.

IODE Scholarship
Spring
The Independent Order of the Daughters of the Empire (IODE) chapter of North Vancouver has established this ongoing award for a Music Therapy student.

Music Therapy Association of B.C. Scholarship
Spring
The provincial chapter, Music Therapy Association of BC, has established this scholarship for a deserving Music Therapy student. The scholarship is given to a 4th year student demonstrating excellence.

Jim Campbell Memorial Music Therapy Bursary
Spring
This award honours a friend. This bursary is aimed at Music Therapy students who demonstrate financial need and who are successful in their practicum experiences.

Jim Standeven Memorial Music Therapy Scholarship
Spring
Jim was a loving husband, supportive father, and someone who valued faith, family and community. Jim left Canada in his later years to obtain his MA and Ph.D. He returned to Canada to continue his work. This new award recognizes the costs and challenges of attending university as an international student. Only international students will be considered for his scholarship.

John and Jackie Knill Dreammaker Award
Spring
The family of John and Jackie Knill has established an award for those who love music and art. This award is for students in fourth year of the Music Therapy program. A special application form, and an essay, is part of the application process.

Kawai Piano Scholarship
Spring
The Kawai Piano Company supplies new pianos to the Music Department on a loan basis each year. At the end of that year all the pianos are sold in the "Piano Sale". Some of the profit from the sale generates this scholarship. This scholarship rotates between the three music programs each year. One candidate from each of the three music programs is chosen based on pianistic excellence. A general scholarship application form is used.

North Vancouver Community Arts Council Scholarship
Spring
The North Vancouver Community Arts Council awards scholarships each year to students who have achieved excellent academic standing during two preceding terms in a Visual and Performing Arts Program, including Music Therapy. A General Scholarship Application form is used.

University-wide Scholarships of interest to Music Therapy Students:
Paul Gallagher Award for Excellence
Spring
This university-wide award honours a previous Capilano University president. The award focuses on excellence and leadership. Five Capilano University Music Therapy students have won this award in the past eleven years. The award involves partial tuition scholarship and funds for textbooks.
Award value last year: Approximately $2,000.

Canadian Music Therapy Trust Fund Scholarship
Spring
The Canadian Music Therapy Trust Fund offers a national scholarship to the top Canadian Music Therapy student who exemplifies leadership, creativity, innovation and academic excellence. Fourth year students should complete the application process by the March 15 deadline.
