An ECCE Diploma provides students with the competencies and knowledge required to work with children under the age of five in licensed preschools and daycare centres. It offers students an opportunity to examine historical and contemporary understandings of child care, education, families, and childhood. It will provide students with a practical and theoretical foundation as partners in children's lives. Graduates will be prepared to assume leadership roles as early childhood educators and advocates.

What credentials will I gain?
Students graduating in the Diploma Stream will receive the following credentials:

What are the differences between the Diploma and Degree Streams?
In addition to credentials gained in the Diploma Stream, in the Degree Stream you will have the opportunity to gain a:
- Special Needs Certificate
- Bachelor of Early Childhood Care and EducationThe Degree Stream will offer students further opportunities to pursue their understandings of the changing global context of child care, education, families, and childhood. It will offer advanced perspectives on ECCE practice, encouraging graduates to continue to develop their abilities as outstanding educators and partners in children’s lives. Graduates will be prepared to assume leadership roles as advocates, policy specialists, administrators, researchers and early childhood educators.

When and where are courses offered?
The North Vancouver campus now offers a full-time and part-time option for completing the ECCE Diploma.
Sechelt and Squamish regional campuses may offer part-time programs towards the Basic Certificate.
Students should be aware that both full and part-time programs include a number of practicum placements during daytime hours:
- Year 1 (full-time equivalent): 3-week and 5-week placement
- Year 2 (full-time equivalent): 5-week and 6-week OR two 3-week placements
- Year 3: One 6-week or two 3-week placements
In conjunction with Capilano University's International Joint Partnership Projects and Study Abroad several international opportunities have been offered for ECCE students and alumni. These included kindergarten work placements in locations such as Beijing, China and study abroad courses in locations such as England, Sweden and Finland. Currently, there are no active study abroad or exchange programs being offered. For more information call 604.984.4960.
