Students who lack the prerequisites for direct entry into MATH 097, 101, 105, 108, 116 or 190 may choose to write the appropriate Mathematics Placement Test to gain admission into these courses.
Students wanting to enrol in an entry-level course listed in the table below must write a placement test if they do not satisfy the prerequisite requirements for the course as listed in the table below.
Students who completed their prerequisite course more than twelve months ago are encouraged to write the MPT to assess their current math skills.

Math Placement Tests are offered on a regularly-scheduled basis throughout the year - please check the schedule below. MPT guides are available at the
Registrar's Office (BR230), the MLC (BR289) and at the School of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics office (FR471).
for placement into MATH 097, 101, 190
for placement into MATH 105
for placement into MATH 108, 116
With the exception of the placement test for admission into MATH 097, students are not allowed to rewrite the same level of placement test within a twelve-month period. The waiting period to rewrite the placement test for entry into MATH 097 is one month or longer
MPT registration forms (pdf) and an MPT guide are available at the at the
Registrar's Office (BR230) in the Birch building and at the School of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) office (FR471) on the 4th floor of the Fir building. The MPT guide (shown below) provides sample problems and references to other study materials.
To write the MPT you must:
Note: You are not allowed to rewrite the Precalculus or the Calculus MPT for admission into courses within a one-year period.
The next round of Math Placement Tests will be written as outlined below. Students required to take a Math Placement Test for entry into a Math course offered in the Fall 2018 semester should:
Prior to August 22, 2018
August 22, 2018 to September 13, 2018
the School of STEM office by email at firstname.lastname@example.org or at 604.990.7856 to book an
appointment to write the MPT during the hours of 8:30 am to 4:00 pm,
Monday through Thursday. As the test is
2 hours long, the latest sitting starts at 1:45 pm. Bookings are made on a first come, first
served basis. Spacing is limited. All tests are written in the Fir building,
room FR471. Twenty-four hours’ notice is

Allow at least one day for the test to be graded and the results recorded. Your test results, which can be picked up from the Registrar's Office (Birch 230), will include a statement of eligibility for Capilano University mathematics courses, as well as a diagnostic assessment.
Test results from this testing period are valid for Fall 2018, Spring 2019 and Summer 2019 terms.
