What’s a college degree worth? Ask Jason Broz.

by Shelley Kean

For Jason Broz, a recent graduate of the Bachelor of Business Administration program at Capilano College, a college degree means he can now employ artists from across the country to paint limited-edition prints on his custom-made snowboards.

At age 28, fourth-year Business Administration student, Jason Broz, was selected as a finalist for Young Entrepreneur at the North Vancouver Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards.

Born and raised on the North Shore, Jason taught himself to make snowboards over 10 years ago after graduating from high school. He has since gone on to produce world cup winning snowboards that are sold all around the world.

“I was lacking the confidence that you need in the business world,” said Jason of heading back to school two years after he started his own business. “Going to Capilano College is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.”

For someone who has seemingly made a lot of good decisions, that’s saying a lot.

Almost six years ago, Jason, a former junior national snowboarding team member, incorporated his growing business and started Logic Snowboards Limited, a North Shore-based company that provides custom-made, high-end snowboards.

Last year, a board Jason made for another company was product tested by Transworld snowboarding magazine and was voted one of the 10 best performing snowboards in the world.

Despite his success, Jason says he is not planning to expand the company into a mass production factory.

“I like the idea of having it small,” he said. “It keeps it kind of cool and unique.”
