October 1, 2013

One of the faculty in the Bachelor of Music Therapy program was recently invited to present at the University of Limerick in Ireland earlier in September. Sue Baines, who has taught Private Music Instruction Piano to Music Therapy students at Capilano University since 1997, was in Ireland as part of her doctoral studies. She presented on Anti-Oppressive Practice in Music Therapy to first year Masters level students. Sue then attended her progression seminars with other doctoral students at the Music and Health Research Group at the University of Limerick.

Sue was recently publisSue Baineshed in the Arts in Psychotherapy Journal, January 2013, and her article on Music Therapy as an Anti-Oppressive Practice can be read online in the Arts in Psychotherapy Journal. While other disciplines and authors write about anti-oppressive approaches in therapy, Sue is one of a few international authors publishing on this important issue.
