Lies uses her Physiotherapy background to teach a first semester, medical overview course.  Lies covers a great deal of biology, health conditions and terminology in her course and students appreciate the way she delivers the information, her experience in health care, and the stories she finds to illustrate a particular medical condition.

Physiotherapy Work:

  • Lies focuses her attention on family and teaching.  She previously worked with as a UBC Instructor School of Rehabilitation Sciences 1984-89, and a Physiotherapist at Vancouver General Hospital.

Clinical Areas of Interest:

  • Geriatric Medicine, Community-Building: through local journalism, community councils and choir

Professional Accomplishments:

  • 1983 first Physiotherapist at STAT Centre, Vancouver General Hospital; before that, Chair, CPA Nat’l groups: e.g. Physiotherapy week, Research Group, Prenatal Group, etc.

  • Member (retired) Canadian Physiotherapists Association 
  • Member (inactive) College of Physical Therapists of BC
  • Current member: CPA Geriatrics Interest Group

Personal interests:

  • Being part of the Capilano community has influenced Lies to build a small community choir and to try playing African drums and the ukulele. Lies loves the outdoor lifestyle that Vancouver affords and enjoys cycle-touring, kayak trips and cross-country skiing.
