      Painting with Plaster

      Create paintings that will dance off the wall with 3-D texture. Experiment by stamping, marking and embedding mixed media objects into wet plaster, then learn a variety of acrylic paint and brush techniques to create paintings full of lush colour and life. All supplies included in a $40 fee, to be paid to the instructor. This course is held off campus at John Braithwaite Community Centre.

      Learn techniques for antiquing, embossing, and faux finishing. Explore a variety of paint and metallic treatments such as gold leaf, patina, verdigris, copper, silver, rust, foil, and iridescence on wood, metal, canvas, and fabric surfaces.       Turn your inkjet digital photos and prints into lush hand-painted watercolour, acrylic, pastel, and mixed media paintings. Learn about the ever growing range of new-age archival papers and products to incorporate digital images into fine art work.       Paper Clay Art Dolls

      Merge memory and material to create an expressive and unique art doll. You will create an eight-inch art doll based on a simple armature using paper clay along with fabric, paint, and other materials. Your doll can bring to life a personal memory, a photograph, or an image or idea that you create. In this studio course, demonstration and practice will be supplemented with discussions of clay and paint media, basic anatomy and colour theory. This is a fast-paced course for beginners or those wanting to explore a new medium. All supplies included in a $40 fee to be paid to the instructor.       Portraiture: Basics and Beyond

      This self-paced, guided course is for students of all levels and abilities who want to develop and improve their portraiture skills within a fun, supportive and encouraging environment. Working with a live model, different poses will be used to visually inspire and stimulate your creativity. We will also explore self-portraiture using mirrors. Techniques and skills for capturing a likeness as well as form and composition will be covered during the course. All media welcome.

      Please bring a 3B pencil, charcoal, an eraser and a quality drawing pad (minimum 12” × 17”) to the first session. This course is held off campus at John Braithwaite Community Centre.

      Art History Studio: Impressionist Painting Techniques NEW

      This course is designed for all those who want to learn art history from the inside out. You will be introduced to the Impressionist style through a combination of theory and studio practice. Through lectures, case studies, live demonstrations and hands-on practice, you’ll learn about the Impressionist era, and how to sketch, prepare canvas, use colour theory and apply various painting techniques to make your own Impressionist-style painting. Joining theory and practice, you will simultaneously expand your knowledge and improve your painting skills. This course is held off campus at John Braithwaite Community Centre.
