    Mission Statement

The Capilano University Jazz Studies Program seeks to foster students' comprehensive abilities in jazz performance and composition within the context of an enriched liberal arts education. Our goal is to develop musicians who understand and value the rich history and traditions of jazz, who will be prepared to contribute to the evolution and growth of the art form in the future, and who will be equipped to engage creatively with current trends in music.

    Career Paths

The two year Diploma program is intended to provide its students with the skills necessary to develop careers as self-employed professionals in the contemporary music industry. Students who complete the Diploma and meet the minimum GPA requirements can continue to year three of the Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies degree.

The four-year Degree program  focuses on jazz performance and composition in balance with other musical traditions and academic breadth electives to provide an enriched music education. For those who wish to pursue music as self-employed professionals, teach music in the schools, or continue their musical development at the graduate level, it is a unique and attractive option. Capilano Jazz Studies graduates have an excellent record of national and international success as performers and composers and as teachers at primary, secondary, and post-secondary levels.
