    • As an educational institution, our University is all about learning. Here are just a few of the ways Capilano University helps its employees learn. 

      Career Development Opportunities – We offer opportunities throughout the year for various employees. For example we offer specific training for supervisors.

      Computer Skills – Computer upgrading skills are important and workshops are offered.

      Conferences – Individual departments provide funding for conferences in a wide range of areas.

      Faculty Professional Development – Faculty are provided with professional development time off each year. For example, a full time faculty receives two months of professional development time.

      Fee Waivers – The University waives tuition costs of credit courses and three non-credit courses per year for regular employees.

      Foreign Exchange – We have exchanges between countries and faculty.

      Instructional Development – Upon successful completion, Capilano University pays 75% of the cost of courses provided by VCC for the BC Provincial Instructor Diploma for regular faculty and non-regular faculty who have an ongoing commitment with the University. These courses are related directly to teaching techniques. In order to process payment, faculty must submit an expense report, with original receipt(s) and a transcript to Human Resources. 

      International Opportunities – Employees can work and teach in other countries and broaden their international knowledge base.

      Libraries – Capilano University library is located at the North Vancouver campus. Faculty and staff have special borrowing privileges and the Library offers services to instructors to support course and professional development. 

      Lunch and Learn – We offer a series of lunch and learn sessions on everything from wellness, fitness and safety to instructional issues.

      Paid Educational Leave – The University provides funding each year to faculty for Paid Educational Leaves.

      Professional Development Days – The University provides funding for faculty and staff committees who arrange for professional development days for employees. In addition, funds are used for attendance at conferences and events.

      Unpaid Leaves – Capilano University provides unpaid leaves for educational and developmental purposes.

      Web Based Information – Our intranet site provides tremendous resources to employees and, in particular, provides a long list of internet resources on instruction.

      Workshops and Seminars – There are many workshops and seminars presented throughout the year that are open to employees.
