Students wishing to take courses required to complete the Special Needs Certificate must apply to the ECCE Degree or Diploma program and can exit with such program requirements. In addition, students must have completed their Basic Certificate requirements before proceeding with both the Infant/Toddler (IT) and/or Special Needs (SN) specializations.
The Special Needs (SN) certificate is offered to students as 300 level course work and EDUC 159 within the ECCE Diploma or Degree program. This certificate may be completed in two academic terms when studying as a full-time student. Course work is focused on inclusive pedagogical practices with children from birth to five years of age. All students are required to complete a five-week practicum in a licensed inclusive early years program. The SN Certificate courses meet the requirements of the Early Childhood Educator Registry, (Ministry of Children and Family Development) for the ECE Certificate to Practice. For more information on application for a certificate to practice, please contact the Early Childhood Educators Registry.
