Piano Fundamentals for Beginners
This enjoyable course is designed for students with no piano background. You’ll focus on learning to play music through familiar melodies from various musical genres including classical, popular, folk, Broadway and jazz. You’ll learn practice skills, how to read music and also how to play music by ear. You’ll also listen to examples of the various melodies covered in class and discuss the composer and its historical context. This is a great course for anyone who has the desire to learn to play familiar melodies on the piano and to enrich their overall appreciation of music.

More! Jazz Piano
If you already have some understanding of basic piano and can read music, More! Jazz Piano is for you. You’ll work at a keyboard in our piano lab to learn basic jazz piano concepts including how to approach a lead sheet, chords, modes, setting up a groove – swing, bossa, etc. and you’ll also learn to play by ear. Your instructor will teach you practical improvisation techniques which can be applied to blues and jazz standards and will provide tips on how to make practicing music fun, effective and useful. You’ll also listen to musical examples to learn about the evolution of jazz piano and you’ll be introduced to the key players and various styles of music identified with each jazz period – traditional jazz, be-bop, cool jazz, etc.
