      Backstage with the Costume Department

This course is for anyone who has ever wondered what goes on behind the footlights. In this course you will spend an afternoon as a member of the costuming department for Capilano University’s production of Hello Dolly. This hands-on adventure begins at the Capilano Film Centre where you will see the inner workings of the costume production shop: the dye rooms, the cutting and sewing rooms, the fitting rooms, and how a show is put together, from concept to stage. From there, students will go with the costumers to the theatre dressing rooms, and help to prepare for the running of the afternoon production. As the curtain rises in the theatre, the students will participate in the actual running of the show, from backstage presets, costume quick changes, emergency repairs (possibly!), and dressing room duties.
