Program Description

Capilano University is located in beautiful North Vancouver, about 20 minutes from the city center, which offers world class shopping to visitors. International students are invited to come and join the EXPLORE Program at Capilano University. This is a government supported program where French Canadian students come to Vancouver to improve their English and to participate in cultural and recreational activities. This is an excellent opportunity for international students to study English with native Canadians who are also studying English and to experience both French and English culture in Canada. The program is 5 weeks long and runs from the last week of May until the end of June.
The weekly schedule includes the following:

  • 3 hours of English language every morning from 9 a.m.-noon (Monday to Friday)
  • 3 hours of workshops from 1-4 p.m. (2 days per week)
  • 3 hours of cultural and recreational activities from 1-4 p.m.
    (2 days per week)
1 organized evening activity per week.*
Students are tested on the first day of the program to determine their level of English. They are then placed in the appropriate class (beginner, intermediate, advanced).
*Some additional optional activities are planned for evenings
and weekends, and students will pay for these activities if they choose to participate.

Program Benefits

The benefits of the EXPLORE Program are:

  • Students study together with Canadian students from Quebec whose first language is French, so they will need to communicate entirely in English.
  • Students learn about English Canadian culture by living with a Canadian family in Vancouver and learn about French Canadian culture in Quebec by speaking with fellow students from Quebec.
  • Studying together is a good way to make lifelong friends and strengthen international ties/relations.
  • By the end of this 5-week program students will see a significant improvement in their English language skills due to their total English immersion.
  • The cost of this program is very reasonable. It includes tuition, social and cultural activities, and a completion certificate.
