      Convention Management

      Vancouver’s desirability as a destination for conventions is obvious. The number of hotel rooms is increasing, and our new convention centre has recently expanded. This course focuses on the fast growing and specialized area of Conventions and Meetings Management, and covers analysis of market segments, criteria for handling the markets and their meeting needs and job opportunities in the industry. Course includes group activities, industry guest speakers and a field trip.

      Special Events as Fundraisers

      Does your club, team, committee or charity need to raise money? Set aside four Saturday mornings and learn from an expert how to plan and execute a successful fundraising event. Topics include: event selection, purpose, committee creation, delegation, target groups, marketing, ticket sales and event evaluation.

      Catering and Event Planning

      This course teaches the fundamental components of planning and executing an event as well as the various market segments and job opportunities. Participants will explore techniques pertaining to effective marketing, negotiations, logistical planning, managing and execution of an event. Also covered will be the successful planning and execution of a catered event. Classes will typically consist of lectures, small group discussion, case studies, field trips and guest speakers.

      Note: Course fee includes a copy of the instructional workbook.
