Mitra has taught at
Capilano University since 1998, when she began lecturing for two post-graduate
programs: the Asia Pacific Management Program and Latin American Management
In 2000, Mitra was elected as the first Chair of the McRae
Institute of International Management, where she trained Canadian managers to
function effectively in Asia and Latin America. She went on to serve as the
Director of External Relations at McRae prior to teaching in the Capilano
School of Business.
Currently Mitra teaches a wide range of business
courses including international business, cross-cultural negotiation, project
management, organizational behaviour, people management and entrepreneurship.
She maintains a focus on mediation, intercultural project management and
negotiations across cultures and can speak in French, English, Spanish and
Mitra has over 30 years of international experience, including
practicing as an architect in Spain and Algeria. For over 20 years, Mitra ran
her international consulting firm in Vancouver which assisted Canadian
companies in expanding to Asian and Latin American markets.
Mitra has a
Masters of Architecture and Urban Design from the National University of Iran
and a Masters of Advanced Studies in Architecture from the University of
British Columbia. Her studies continued with international business and project
management courses at UBC. She has also completed her Certificate of
Intercultural Studies at UBC and a Certificate of Mediation from the Justice
Institute of British Columbia. She has a Project Management Professional
designation and is an active member of the Vancouver international and local
business community, as well as a number of professional associations.
