Joe IacobellisJoe Iacobellis Leaves a Legacy of Achievement at Cap U

After 39 years of distinguished service to Cap U, Joe Iacobellis is retiring. Under Joe’s direction as Manager, Cap U’s Blues Athletics program grew to become one of the most successful post-secondary athletics programs in BC.

“Joe intensely challenged his players, but he was always very balanced and supportive. And he supported our academic goals as well,” recalls Eric Accili, former Blues soccer player and outgoing Chair of the Capilano University Alumni Association. Under Joe’s leadership, Blues athletes won 38 Academic All-Canadian awards, 60 provincial academic excellence awards, and 57 All-Canadian awards.

Joe also assisted in designing the Sportsplex and raised funds for athletic scholarships. In his latter years he served as Director of Student Affairs and worked with the Centre for International Experience. “When I began working at Capilano in 1977, I could not have imagined that I would conclude my career in the same institution after almost four decades,” says Joe. “Although I am retiring, Capilano University will always be a part of my life.”

To honour Joe’s remarkable contribution to the Blues and Cap U, please consider a gift to the Adopt-a-Blue fund to help turn today’s student athletes into tomorrow’s community leaders.
