This will be a lively and engaging discussion with a leading scholar of Indigenous history and culture in the Fraser Valley. Naxaxalhts'i is also an adjunct professor of history at the University of the Fraser Valley and holds an honorary doctorate from the University of Victoria.
Historian and Cultural Advisor Naxaxalhts'i (Sonny McHalsie) will be on campus to speak about the history and culture of the Stó:lō People and S’ólh Téméxw (Stó:lō Territory) in the Fraser Valley. Naxaxalhts'i has been working with the Stó:lō Nation as an archaeologist and historian since 1985 and has been studying Halq’eméylem (the upriver language) place names for over 20 years.
