August 28, 2008: Capilano prepares to welcome new students to North Van campus

      (NORTH VANCOUVER, B.C.)—Capilano University’s new student orientation at the North Vancouver campus on Tuesday, September 2 promises to be a lively and fun affair. Approximately 1,500 students are expected to participate in a variety of events that include:

      • Two check ins, one at 8:30 and another at 10:30 a.m. at parking lot number one behind the Sportsplex.
        Music, break dancers and refreshments will keep new arrivals happy until they move into the Sportsplex.
      • Welcomes and Playfair, from 10 – 11 a.m. and 12 – 1 p.m. in the Sportsplex gym
        Welcomes will be provided by Capilano University administration, the Squamish Nation and students. Playfair, along with student leaders, will lead high energy group activities in the Sportsplex main gym. This session is for participants only.
      • **Free lunch, community fair and prize draws at 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. on the Maple field, located on the North Campus (follow signs to parking lot number 2).
        Students will enjoy a free lunch on the Maple field while listening to hip-hop band, FreeFlow. Other activities:
        Prize draws during lunch include Whistler weekend getaway and Indigo/Chapters and Earl’s gift certificates. Prizes will be given out mid way through the two lunches – around 12:30 and 2 p.m.

      The community fair will include a presence by VANOC, the City of North Vancouver, the District of North Vancouver, the North Van Rec Commission and several Capilano Students’ Union groups.

      Students will also have the option of taking a campus tour.

      **Best times for photo opportunities will be during lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. on the Maple field.

      Capilano University is located at 2055 Purcell Way in North Vancouver. Travelling north on Highway 1, take Exit 22a or Exit 22b at the north end of the Second Narrows (Iron Workers Memorial) Bridge. From Exit 22a, turn left at the first intersection and proceed up the hill on Lillooet Road to the main campus entrance on Purcell Way (.5km); turn right on Purcell Way. From Exit 22b, proceed through the first intersection in the centre lanes and continue up the hill on Lillooet Road to main entrance on Purcell Way (.5km); turn right on Purcell Way. For Maple field, continue up Lillooet Road to parking lot number 2.
