(NORTH VANCOUVER, B.C.)—Capilano College is this year’s host of the annual British Columbia Colleges Business Simulation competition on March 6, 7 and 8.

Teams from B.C. colleges compete in a computerized business simulation game and demonstrate their business acumen by preparing, following, defending and/or adapting their strategic plan. The simulation software varies from year to year. This year the game is Corporation.

A distinguished panel of judges, comprised of members from B.C.’s business community, will evaluate the teams and team members on their depth and breadth of business knowledge, their strategic plan, and their presentation skills. They also challenge the participants to defend their business choices. This year’s panel includes: head judge Alan Fraser, former director, compensation and payroll for ICBC; Yuri Fulmer, president and CEO, FDC Brands; Karen Nelson, operations manager, customer contact call centre, ICBC; Brion Bailey, owner of Chinook Lodge; and, Kevin Lorenz, associate with Galloway Botteselle & Company, an independent CGA firm.

Judges will also present the participants with business issues (either individually or by team) and evaluate their responses. Awards will be distributed to teams and individuals.

For more than 20 years, the B.C. Business Simulation competition has provided students with real-life experience, putting their classroom education into action under pressure situations.
