(NORTH VANCOUVER, B.C.)—Capilano University is hoping to hear from alumni whose ideas, passion and achievements have helped shape the University and the communities it serves.
An exceptional alumnus for each year from 1968 through to 2008 will be selected and recognized, along with all nominees, at a celebration on May 7, 2009. Anyone can make one or more nominations, and alumni are encouraged to nominate themselves.
“We’re so proud of the range of people who have attended Capilano since we first opened in 1968, and we want to use the occasion of our 40th year to acknowledge them for their achievements,” says Capilano University president and vice-chancellor, Dr. Greg Lee. “They offer a reflection of the variety of paths students have taken to come here, and what they’ve gone on to do.
“I strongly encourage people to nominate either themselves or someone else who fit the criteria of one of our alumni of inspiration.”
Nominations for the program, called 40 Over 40 Years: Alumni of Inspiration, will be accepted until February 27, 2009. It is open to individuals who hold a certificate, diploma, or degree from Capilano, or who have earned 24 credits of study from the institution.
Following are some factors that will be taken into consideration in the selection process:
Diversity of paths taken before or after Capilano
Influence on a Capilano program
Impact on his or her community
Weight of influence on or support of Capilano
Strength of nominees’ qualities in exemplifying Capilano’s mission of preparing them for fulfilling work and as good citizens in our global society
