(NORTH VANCOUVER, B.C.)—Capilano English instructor, Ryan Knighton, has been selected as one of 13 screenwriters to create a draft script based on his book Cockeyed. Ryan will work with star directors and writers at the Sundance Screenwriters Lab in Utah in January 2008. Past recipients of positions at the lab include Quentin Tarantino for Reservoir Dogs, P. T. Anderson for Hard Eight, Ryan Fleck for Half Nelson, and Miranda July for You, Me and Everyone We Know, among many others. Ryan has received assistance with a Sloan Fellowship to attend the workshop.
Michael Thoma, instructor in the Motion Picture Production program at Capilano, has accepted the position of writer-in-residence for the North Shore Libraries for 2008.
“This involves a number of workshops on the North Shore in April where I will meet with aspiring writers and give comments on their manuscripts and/or screenplays,” he said.
Michael is also on one of the committees supporting a 2008 conference at Simon Fraser University on Culture, Consciousness and Nature – A Context for Climate Change.
