(NORTH VANCOUVER, B.C.)—Alpha Woodward is Capilano’s 2007 Distinguished Alumni Award recipient. Through her work providing music therapy at the Pavarotti Music Centre in Mostar, Bosnia, children who have suffered from war-related mental and physical injuries are slowly putting their lives back together.
Eight additional alumni were nominated for a Distinguished Alumni Award and honoured at an event held at Capilano’s North Vancouver campus on June 12: Yara Ainsworth, manager with GM Europe sales in Switzerland; David Bate, now a resident of South Africa where he founded an investment bank and a boutique winery; North Shore dentist, Dr. Ali Behmard; renowned fish scientist, Dr. Colin Brauner; Oscar Delgado, YVR project manager; Dr. Thomas Kerr, renowned pioneer in the development of safe injection/harm reduction models; Dr. Wafa Tawackoli, stem cell researcher at Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre in Los Angeles; and Liz Young, the eighth student to register at the College and the first student to return to the College as a teacher, where she taught writing and biology for 32 years.
