(NORTH VANCOUVER)—A new collective agreement for Capilano College support staff was ratified September 21 by the Post-Secondary Employers’ Association of B.C. The agreement was previously ratified by COPE employees and approved by the Capilano College board of governors. The four-year agreement between the College and its COPE employees covers the period of April 1, 2002 to March 31, 2006.

“We’re happy that the parties involved were able to reach an agreement,” said College president, Dr. Greg Lee. “Good morale and an excellent working relationship with all our employees is a key priority.”

The new agreement provides for a 1.5% increase in support staff wages effective April 1, 2005. An additional wage increase of 1% effective April 1, 2005 will be offset by the discontinuation of an annual training fund of an equivalent value. A signing bonus equal to 3% of salary for regular employees is also offset by unspent amounts in the training fund from previous years.
