(NORTH VANCOUVER, B.C.)—Dust off those special projects and put a student to work for you! Each spring, the department of Applied Business Technology at Capilano College places its students into businesses throughout the Lower Mainland.
“Employers can host practicums for students in our Accounting Assistant program, our Office Assistant program, and our new Executive Support program,” says Marion Cragg, chair of the Applied Business Technology Program. “What better way to interview a job candidate than by having them in the workplace for a two-week tryout.”
It’s a win-win situation when through a practicum employers get the opportunity to see how the student fits in with the company and students have an opportunity to use the skills they’ve acquired during their vocational programs.
Students are well-trained in a variety of computer applications, accounting procedures, and administrative procedures.
“Many of our students are re-entering the workforce or changing careers,” says Sally Livingstone, the instructor in charge of practicum placements for the business technology programs. “By hosting a practicum placement, employers can provide a supportive environment for students to prepare themselves for the workplace.”
For more information on how to host a two-week practicum this spring, contact Sally Livingstone at 604.986.1911, local 2371, or e-mail email@example.com.
