(NORTH VANCOUVER, B.C.)—The McRae Institute of International Management at Capilano College has signed an important partnership agreement with China’s top post-secondary institution, Tsinghua University.

“This signing is the first time the prestigious Chinese university has formed a partnership with anything other than an elite university such as Harvard, Oxford or Yale,” says Allen Zhu, coordinator of international programs at Capilano College. “We are the only college they have ever signed with and they formed the agreement because of the McRae Institute’s excellent reputation in Asia.”

Tsinghua’s International Cooperation and Exchange Centre will work closely with the McRae Institute to establish training centres both in Beijing and Vancouver. The centres will provide quality academic training programs, which will be customized for professionals who have rich experience but need to upgrade their knowledge in business operation, marketing, business strategy, and international trade.

Both partners will research and develop a series of courses that will include business plan development, financial management, venture capital management, joint venture and international market practice, real estate development, human resource management, taxation and auditing.

“The programs will appeal to state-owned business operators, private business entrepreneurs and people working in provincial governments,” says Zhu. “They will learn to do business in the North American market, as well as in Latin America.”

The training will also interest Canadians who want to do business in Asia. Students will participate through the programs offered by the McRae Institute and have the option of attending Tsinghua for part of their training.

“This partnership strengthens the College’s Asian connections,” Zhu says. “Tsinghua has the ability to train people from all over the world. We will be able to use this training project to broaden and establish networks and practicums for our own students.”

Capilano College partners with institutions, governments, and organizations worldwide. It already has well-established partnerships with other institutions in China, including State Administration for Foreign Experts Affairs (SAFEA), Dalian Nationalities University, Nanjing University of Technology, Tianjin Polytechnic University, the Hangzhou University of Commerce and the Beijing Capital University of Economics.

Known for its innovative programs, some of which are unique in Canada, Capilano College is committed to the continued development of international education programs. Celebrating its 35th anniversary this year, the College’s three campuses serve 7,500 credit and 7,000 non-credit students annually. The programs offered by the McRae Institute of International Management at Capilano College have been recognized as unique entities that capitalize on work experience and education of professionals from a variety of countries and ethnic backgrounds. The diversity of individuals involved in the programs from around the globe allows for an ideal learning environment that successfully parallels the multi-cultural work environment of an increasingly inter-connected world.
