(SQUAMISH, B.C.)--The Squamish campus of Capilano College will be holding a dedication of the Linda Carney Access Centre on Tuesday, September 10 at 2 p.m.

The centre consists of five high-speed computers available for both students and community members to access the College library services and the Internet for learning and research.

Owen Carney, husband of the late Linda Carney, donated funds for the centre. Linda was a community leader committed to access of education for all. She was also a past member of the College board of governors, the first chair of the Campus Advisory Committee, the youngest trustee elected to the Howe Sound School Board and the first female president of the Squamish Rotary Club.

"The Linda Carney Access Centre is aptly named for a member of the community who fully participated in everything she did," said College president, Dr. Greg Lee. "Capilano College students and members of our communities can take full advantage of this technology to enhance their studies and broaden their horizons. Our thanks to Owen for this very special gift."

The centre marks the first project completed under the $5 million Opening Doors, Changing Lives campaign of the Capilano College Foundation. This campaign is designed over the next four years to raise $2 million for College-wide technology needs and $3 million for a new centre of international management at the North Vancouver campus.
