(NORTH VANCOUVER) -- Writer, video maker and multimedia artist, Shani Mootoo, will speak and provide a reading as part of the Hon. Thomas A. Dohm lecture series Wednesday, October 20 at Capilano College, 7:30 p.m. in the Cedar building, room 148.
Born in Ireland, raised in Trinidad and now living in Vancouver, Mootoo most recently applied her world knowledge in her first novel, Cereus Blooms at Night. Told in the Caribbean tradition as a chorus of stories, the 1997 publication was well-received in Canada.
The 42-year-old has had her video work shown in New York’s Museum of Modern Art and has been a guest reader on both the east and west coasts of North America. Her poetry has been anthologized in The Very Inside and her paintings and photo-based works have been exhibited internationally.
This lecture is sponsored by the Women’s Studies department at Capilano College. Admission is free. For more information, contact Marlene LeGates at 986-1911, local 2467.
