November 19, 2014: Capilano University’s international education program receives national recognition

November 19, 2014 (NORTH VANCOUVER, B.C.) — The Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE) is presenting Capilano University with the Panorama Award for Outstanding International Education Program in the capacity building category. The Panorama Award is presented annually to a team or individual to recognize innovation and excellence in design, planning, implementation and management of high quality endeavours in international education.

Capilano is receiving the award for the Canadian Academics Studying Europe (CASE) study tour, a partnership between Capilano University and the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Northwestern Switzerland. Through the CASE study tour, over 45 faculty and 16 administrators have participated in the ten-day trip in Germany, Switzerland and France, meeting with leaders in business, the European Parliament and European academia. As a result of CASE, faculty at 16 colleges and teaching universities across Canada and Europe have created new exchange partnerships and summer programs.

The CASE project is one of Capilano’s initiatives aimed at building capacities to offer outstanding experience for international and domestic students. As the students from all over the world increasingly recognize the benefits of education at Capilano, the university's international enrollment grew by 20% in fall of 2014 over 2013.

“Nearly 800 international students from 56 countries are investing in their future through their studies at Capilano University. Capilano's small classes, professionally skilled faculty and applied programs offer our international students education, skills and experience that prepare them for a successful future.  Our international students bring the world to our classrooms, strengthening global awareness amongst all students and faculty and are often the motivation for domestic students who choose to study abroad,” says Donna Hooker, Director of Capilano’s Centre for International Experience.

The Capilano community is taking part in International Education Week from November 17 to November 21, 2104, with a variety of intercultural events including: Rio carnival, drumming circle, mini international film festival and study abroad fair. These events are open to the public. Details are available at www.capilanou.ca.
