October 22, 2014: New 'We Act' scholarships by Capilano U

Capilano University adds scholarships for students participating in We Act education program

‘We Act’ scholarships will recognize students’ commitment to social change

October 22, 2014 (NORTH VANCOUVER, B.C.)—Capilano University has added two entrance scholarships for students who have demonstrated commitment to social change by participating in the We Act education program in high school. The new scholarships will help engaged high school students continue their education as well as their social action in the community by covering their tuition fees.

“Capilano’s goal is to inspire students to become changemakers” says Kris Bulcroft, Capilano University President. “Introducing these two scholarships is our way of showing the prospective students that the energy and momentum of We Day continues at Capilano University.  Supporting the movement of changemakers on our campus, within the community and across the globe is fostered and built into many of our programs and initiatives.”

Up to two scholarships will be awarded to high school graduates who have demonstrated excellence in academics and who were invited to participate in We Day as a result of their involvement in the We Act educational program. The scholarships provide full domestic tuition and tuition surcharges for one academic year. The scholarship may also be renewed for up to three additional years. More information about We Act scholarships is available at www.capilanou.ca/entrance-awards/.

This is Capilano’s second year as the exclusive post-secondary partner of We Day Vancouver. This shared vision of empowering students to become drivers of social change is also why Capilano U awarded Marc Kielburger, co-founder of Me to We and Free the Children—the charitable organizations behind We Day—with an honorary doctorate degree this past spring.

In a video message Kielburger sent to Capilano University about the entrance scholarship, he says “Free the Children and Capilano University share a common goal to empower and enable young people to be agents of change.  Cap’s partnership with We Day is one example of the university’s commitment to educating, engaging and empowering students. Thank you Capilano University for your leadership in helping students reach their fullest potential as agents of change and lifelong, active global citizens.”
