September 27, 2013: Capilano University Board of Governors for 2013/2014 announced

      (North Vancouver, B.C.) Jane Shackell, associate counsel with Miller Thompson LLP and alumna of Capilano University, has been elected chair of the 2013/2014 Board of Governors. Shelley McDade, chief executive officer of Sunshine Coast Credit Union, has been elected vice-chair

      Returning board members include Capilano University President and Vice-Chancellor, Kris Bulcroft; Chancellor Peter Ufford; Brent Leigh, deputy chief administrative officer for the City of West Vancouver; Blair Simonite, CFO and CEO of Recombo Inc.,  faculty representatives Frank Harris and Stephen Williams, and non-faculty employee representative Kimberley Read.

      New members include Christina Anthony, vice-president of Odlum Brown Limited; Zahir (Zack) Bhatia, principal of Mayfair Properties Ltd.; Soon Kim, managing partner for Kim & Oh LLP Chartered Accountants and, Cybele Negris, president, CEO and co-founder of Webnames.ca.

      Shelly3Tiaré Jung and Natahsha Prakash are newly-elected student representatives serving one-year terms.

      The Board of Governors of Capilano University, established in accordance with the University Act, is composed of 15 members. These include the chancellor, the president and vice-chancellor, eight members appointed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council, including two nominated by the alumni association, and five elected from the University community-two faculty members, two students, and one non-faculty staff member.

       Members of the Capilano University Board of Governors represent a diversity of backgrounds and expertise. The Board of Governors is responsible for the business affairs of the University, determines the policies by which the University operates and reviews the financial performance of the University. The Board holds regular meetings that are open to the public to conduct its general business and to fulfil its statutory responsibilities. Members of Capilano University's Board of Governors serve voluntarily and without remuneration for their services.
