November 24, 2016: Capilano University reveals a bold new brand

      NORTH VANCOUVER B.C. – Capilano University unveiled its vibrant new brand in a “sneak peek” celebration at its North Vancouver campus on November 24, 2016.

      The University embarked upon a unique engagement project in 2016—to define our new brand through the insights of our students, faculty and employees. Thoughtful input from Aboriginal student representatives, advisors and Elders helped guide the process to ensure the final logo honours the Capilano name and ensures the new symbolism is inclusive and meaningful for all.

      “Our new brand signifies the creativity, confidence and wisdom that’s cultivated at Capilano University,” says Paul Dangerfield, the University’s president. “It’s our time to shine.”

      Our new logo reflects the University’s place between sea and sky, and the influences of nature appreciated by our students and employees. The bold colours signify a pride-of-identity that honours the diversity of our campus community. A fusion of modern abstract and Coast Salish influences, the logo is intersected by two transparent lines, symbolizing pathways of peaceful coexistence. The arc disrupts the traditional crest shape, while the overall form remains whole and united. When combined with the modern, sans serif typeface, the logo creates a deeply resonant symbol asserting Capilano University’s unique position in the post-secondary landscape and its service to supporting the goals and aspirations of all students who pass through its doors.

      Capilano University’s Board of Governors approved the brand on November 8, 2016.

      “The refreshed brand signals the dawn of a new era at Capilano University,” says Soon Kim, chair of the University’s Board of Governors. “It mirrors our landscape, diversity, strength and pride.”

      The University will officially launch the brand in January 2017. The community can expect to see advertising in print, outdoors and on social media early in the New Year.
