Charlene Hill, the chair of Capilano University's School of Business, knows all the sale secrets of the stores you shop in. Before becoming an educator, she ran her own business and worked in the retail industry for many years as an operations manager and retail buyer. She brings her past experience into the classroom when she teaches retail marketing and encourages fieldwork projects where her students analyze and observe store design and technology used at local retailers.
"Upscale department stores are laid out a certain way. Their biggest money makers are always out front; that's why you see the cosmetics and shoe departments on the first floor," says Charlene.
