I used the Study Abroad Program in a selfish way. I didn't think about it, I just did it.

For me, I wasn't studying abroad, I was getting out of Vancouver. Why? Because I was tired of the same old routine, I was tired of "Vancouver". I packed the night before my flight, told my friends I was leaving for 6 months roughly 3 days before I was leaving. I was not prepared in the least bit for what this trip really was to me. Even though Yvonne had us fill out the paper work, do a couple interviews, workshops and advised us to read the blogs, all those prepare you for the external atmosphere and it does not prepare for what is going to happen to you internally and what will change in you inevitably.

The only advice I can give to students is only go on a study abroad if you are truly ready for a change in yourself and wanting to be out of your "comfort zone". When I left I was ready for a change which led to me having an experience that really cannot be summed up. It wasn't just one experience that led to a change in me.  I could probably create a book of stories with a sequel and a pre sequel to be released after the sequel with the amount of stories, experiences, learning opportunities, cultural clashes, cultural shocks, things to do and not to do in different countries, etc that I got from my abroad term.

Don't think about it, just do it and see what happens.
