Hassan Merali is a third year student in the Liberal Studies program at Capilano University, pursuing a Bachelor of Arts Degree. This is his first term on the University's Board of Governors, and his first on the Board of Directors at the Capilano Students' Union (CSU).
Hassan grew up in Deep Cove, graduating from École Dorothy Lynas Elementary School and Seycove Seconday School. He has spent most of his life in North Vancouver and feels a special attachment to the people, landscapes, and institutions of the North Shore. Hassan is passionate about preserving the natural environment, lifelong learning, civic engagement, the arts, social justice, and education.
Hassan's connections to Capilano go back to his preschool days at Cap College Day Care, extending through the Blues Summer Basketball Camps he attended to his time now as an undergraduate student. These experiences have led him to recognize the important roles played by non-faculty and non-student members of the Cap community in making the campus such a vibrant educational setting. Hassan is committed to helping Capilano continue to develop and evolve so students who attend Capilano can do the same.
