My defining moment occurred after returning to Vancouver. During week one of school a close friend asked me, “how do you keep it going?” What they really meant to say is, “aren’t you a little depressed? After returning to reality, old friends, family, school, and work?”
My response: Instead of returning to the same old, I harnessed the momentum of my travel to search for a new face of Vancouver. My love of craft beer lead me to a new job. My new found love of food and agriculture lead me to a volunteer session with the Vancouver Farmers Market.
Through these new channels of interaction I have met new people and feel like the travel hasn’t ended. My defining moment was when I realized my study abroad semester hasn’t ended yet.
To those students who are on the fence about studying abroad, I want you to see this opportunity as more than 4 months in another country. Studying abroad will help you find your passion and turn it into something you can work towards after returning to Canada.
