If I had to choose one thing to say to all you kids who are thinking of studying abroad it would be: Just Freakin’ Do It! I promise you without a shadow of a doubt, that it will change your life. It’s such a worthwhile experience. I mean, who doesn’t want to spend four months living in France, New Zealand, China, or any one of the other options?! You get to be a part of the wonderful study abroad family, you will meet people who change your view of the world and challenge you in new ways, you will experience new cultures and see beautiful, amazing places.

Scotland was a great place to study. It definitely didn’t feel too far out of my comfort zone, which could be a bonus for someone who is feeling a bit nervous to leave home. It’s such a beautiful country, and there is so much to see and do in the surrounding countries. When you study abroad, it’s an easy way to see the world without having to fully leave your life behind. You’re still working on your degree which is awesome.

Travelling is good for your soul. And it seems pretty obvious to me that you should always do something if it’s going to be good for your soul!! When you’re out in the world, far away from everything you know, you will learn things that can’t be taught in a classroom. From my own experiences, I found that travelling made me a better person, and it definitely made me a happier person. I learned to be more understanding and more patient with people. I learned to appreciate things that we take for granted and also to appreciate all the incredible experiences I’ve been lucky enough to have. The feeling I get from going to a new place and trying all these different things is like no other. You feel like you’re on fire. But in a good way. It’s like you can’t wipe the grin off your face because you’ve never felt so happy in your whole life. Light beams are basically shining out of your eyeballs. Something inside of you changes, and other people start to notice it. You feel lighter, less burdened. You realize how insignificant our struggles are in comparison to the struggles others go through every day.

I can honestly say that you won’t regret your decision to go, but you’ll always wonder what you were missing out on if you don’t. Taking chances and stepping out of your comfort zone is the best way to grow and hopefully you’ll learn a bit along the way.

Be kind. Find what you’re passionate about. Take some risks. Do things that scare you, then live to tell the tale. Go to Morocco. Ride a camel. Eat weird foods. Take photos of everything. Give More. Expect Less. Do good. Work hard, and most importantly enjoy every second of this adventure.
