April 2014

We are happy to present the Second Draft of the Capilano University Academic Plan 2014-2018 (pdf), developed collectively by the Academic Planning Advisory Committee and the five Academic Deans in consultation with our university community and taking into account all of the feedback provided on the previous draft. We believe it to be consistent with Cap's mission and vision, our learning outcomes and core themes, and our commitment to excellence in student learning and student success.

Please note there are some sections (Executive Summary, Acknowledgements, Works Consulted, etc.) that will not be written until the body of the Academic Plan is completed. As we continue through this process we also anticipate there will be a good deal of editorial work done before we reach the end.  In fact, even the final draft will not be the end, so much as a place to begin our next steps forward. That is why the Academic Plan is not filled with detail and specifics; it is a roadmap providing some landmarks and potential directions that we as a community will navigate together.

There are two forums scheduled for community members to provide their responses to this draft of the Academic Plan:Thursday, April 24th from 3:00-5:00 pm in the Sportsplex Multipurpose Room and Monday, April 28th from 4:00-6:00 pm in LB322.  These are opportunities for dialogue and discussion, not presentation.  Please read the plan before the forums and come with ideas, concerns, alternatives, and more.  Additionally, feedback can be submitted via email to or directly to the Office of the Vice President Academic and Provost.

Development of the next draft will begin following the upcoming forums, with additional information provided via this website.

Thank you for your participation, support and good work during this process.
