Stephen Atkins, Stephen Atkins, BFA Theatre/Art History, MFA Theatre/Film (SFU) is a part-time faculty member at Capilano University, Artistic Director of Human Theatre in Vancouver and an Associate Artist with Zen Zen Zo Physical Theatre in Brisbane. He was a founding member of the Tooba Physical Theatre Centre (1994-1996) in Vancouver and has performed, taught and directed in Vancouver, Brisbane, Melbourne, London UK, Calgary and Lethbridge. Directing credits for Exit 22 include Fade to Black, The Woman,The Grace of Mary Traverse, Tornado, Nobody, Forever Yours Mary-Lou, Mad Boy Chronicle, Woyzeck, Les Belles-souers, The Skriker, Ash Girl and the upcoming adaptation of Medea. Other productions include Samuel Beckett: 5 Short Pieces for Human Theatre, Dracula, Sub Con Warrior 2.0 and the upcoming production of Inferno with Zen Zen Zo. Writing credits for theatre include Just Measures (1989), Four & Twenty Blackbirds (1992), Black Angels (1997), Dracula (an adaptation for physical theatre 2007), Sub-Con Warrior 2.0 (2008), Heiner Müller's Hamletmachine (co-translator - 2009) and Inferno (2009).
Gillian Barber, AGSM (UK) (Acting for Stage and Screen/Musical Theatre/Movement) studied acting and directing at UVic and at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in England, and is a busy working actor in Vancouver. Selected feature films include: Crossword, Hot Rod, Beneath, Connie and Carla, Double Jeopardy, SuperVolcano, Kitchen Party, Needful Things, Jumanji, Cats and Dogs, Bang, Bang, You're Dead, and Truman Capote's In Cold Blood. TV Series include regular appearances on Stargate, Cold Squad, DaVinci's Inquest, Outer Limits, The 4400, Millennium, X-Files, as well as countless Movies of the Week. A regular at the Arts Club Theatre, Gillian has appeared in over 30 shows there, and has performed across Canada at such theatres as Alberta Theatre Projects, Theatre Calgary, Manitoba Theatre Centre, and the National Theatre in Ottawa. She directs and choreographs professionally, and has directed and/or choreographed Jerry's Girls, You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown, Cinderella, Anything Goes, Into the Woods, Children of Eden and The Wiz for Capilano College, A Little Princess, Rocky Horror Show, and My Fair Lady (assisting Bill Millerd) at the Arts Club Theatre, and Rocky Horror Show, Blame it on Broadway for Downstage Right Productions and NRG-Aurum for Ophidian. Gillian is also a black belt in Taekwondo.
Kim Bothen draws on more than 20 years of experience as a costumer in the entertainment industry. She has been involved in a diverse range of organizations, including small theatre and dance companies, schools and amateur organizations, large-scale opera, musical theatre and ballet companies, and film. Kim has worked in many capacities in costume departments across the country and in the U.S. With skills as a stitcher, fabric decorator, buyer, shop supervisor, crew supervisor, dresser and design assistant, Kim considers herself first and foremost a cutter with a solid background in period costuming
Kevin Michael Cripps DipMus (GMcE)(Musical Theatre/PMTI) is a graduate of the Grant MacEwan College music program where he studied vocal jazz and composition. He has also studied opera performance at the University of Alberta, and musical theatre with the Edmonton Musical Theatre Society. As a musical director Kevin has enjoyed numerous projects within Vancouver and Edmonton including Children of Eden, Lucky Stiff, Baby, Honk, Anything Goes, Cinderella, The Wiz, Marry Me A Little and Blood Brothers….to name a few. This years projects include The Baker's Wife for Applause Musicals in Concert, Into The Woods for Capilano University, and Good News in Calgary. When not madly waving his arms or plunking on a piano Mr. Cripps spends his time treading the boards as an actor. Past favorites include Tony in West Side Story, Simon Peter in Corpus Christi, and Mingo in Crazy For You. Last winter he appeared in Gateway's production of The Secret Garden as Albert Lenox and this past summer played Jud in the TUTS production of Oklahoma. Kevin Michael will also be adjudicating at this years Kiwanis music festival in Edmonton. As an instructor and musical director, Kevin is proud to be playing a part in Cap's new Musical Theatre program.
Mat Herrmann BFA (UVic) studied at The University Of Victoria where he earned his BFA in Scenic Design and Directing. He then moved back to his hometown, Calgary, to work as a Stage Carpenter and Design Assistant at Alberta Theatre Projects. Upon returning to BC, he worked as a Technical Director, and Scenic Carpenter for many of the theatre companies throughout the Lower Mainland, and Victoria. Over the next nine years Mat mastered his skills in Lighting, Sound, and Scenic Design. He also took contract work as a Technical Director for Norwegian Cruise Lines aboard three different ships. Prior to coming to Capilano University Mat worked in the Film and TV Industry as a Scenic Carpenter and Lead Hand in many productions From X-Files To X-Men II. Mat is happy to be part of the team at Capilano College as a Technical Instructor and Supervisor.
Shelley Stewart Hunt (Dance/Musical Theatre) a native of Vancouver, Shelley has been singing, dancing and acting in a wide range of stage, film and television productions since childhood. Credits include: My Fair Lady and Evita at the Arts Club/Stanley Theatre; "Rumpelteazer" in the national touring company of CATS; "Alice" in the ABC-TV movie musical Bye Bye Birdie (and accompanying soundtrack); and roles in several TV series. Shelley has sung with the Vancouver Opera chorus and has been a member of the Classic Carolers for over ten years. She currently performs with and is an original member of The Urban Tap Squad. As a choreographer and instructor, Shelley has had 15 years of experience working for several prominent Lower Mainland dance studios and arts programmes, teaching children of all ages and adults—from beginners to professional dancers and all levels in between—in a variety of different genres. She also adjudicates and is a busy guest teacher for local and international courses. Choreographic credits include: Eve and the Firehorse (independent feature), The Kiss (short feature); several commercials; numerous awards and fashion shows; seven years as Resident Choreographer for Uncle Randy Productions; West Side Story and Little Shop of Horrors for Theatre Under the Stars; Metrospective (I and II) for SDA Productions; and most recently, Pal Joey and Guys and Dolls for Studio 58 at Langara College, Oklahoma at TUTS and motion capture choreography for Mattel's "Barbie" movie, The Princess and the Pauper.
Dawn Moore Dawn Moore is a member of the Capilano University theatre faculty (acting, directing, theatre history), and Chair of the School of Visual and Performing Arts. Dawn holds a BFA from the University of Victoria and an MA in directing from Western Washington University. Past directing credits include The Last Days of Judas Iscariot, The Laramie Project, Charlotte’s Web: The Musical, Crimes of the Heart, and The Heidi Chronicles for Exit 22 Productions and Fiddler on the Roof (assistant to the director) for the Vancouver Playhouse.
A current focus for Dawn is travel-research in Europe where she recently studied mask making with Professor Agostino Dessí in Florence Italy. Dawn hopes to establish a study abroad theatre program in Italy.
Dawn lives in North Vancouver with her husband Paddy who is a television producer and has three children, Kieran, Kelsey, and Katlyn, and a lovely labradoodle Guinness who appeared in The Wiz.
Bill Murdoch BFA (UVic), MFA (UBC) (Acting, Theatre History, Acting for Film & TV) has been teaching at Capilano University for 27 years and has kept busy with numerous roles on stage, TV, and feature films. Bill has toured a one man show on Edgar Allen Poe, directed and acted in many Fringe Festival shows, and appeared in such feature films as Grey Fox, Little Women and We're No Angels. Television credits include The Beachcombers, MacGyver, and Airwolf .
Des Price BFA (SFU), MFA (UBC), (Acting/Theatre History/Production) holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from SFU and has a Master of Fine Arts from UBC. He is an instructor at Capilano College and is the Manager of the Capilano College Performing Arts Theatre. A Vancouver based director and lighting designer; Des has extensive experience working as a technical director and head electrician for a variety of companies; and is a member of IATSE Loc 118. Des was previously the Artistic Director of Novus Theatre for whom he directed Jennie's Story, , Molly's Dream and Elizabeth – Almost By Chance A Woman. His production of Canadian Gothic was picked by the Vancouver Sun as one of the best ten-theatre production of the year for 1999. Other directing credits include Top Girls, Servant of Two Masters, Fefu and Her Friends and Dracula. Most recently he directed Waiting for Godot and Beauty and the Beast for Capilano College. He has twice been nominated for a Jessie Richardson Award for Outstanding Achievement in Lighting Design, for the original Tamahnous production of Haunted House Hamlet and for Novus Theatre's production of Scary Stories. Last season he designed the lighting for Cap Theatre's production of Darn That Dream. He also designed the lighting for Capilano College's productions of Our Town, Misanthrope, Twelfth Night and The Heidi Chronicles and You're a Good Man Charlie Brown . Other recent designs include Cotton Patch Gospel, Dreams of Kings and Carpenters and Sister Calling My Name all for Pacific Theatre. He has designed lights in the past for Richmond Gateway Theatre, Vancouver East Cultural Centre, and Western Washington University.
David Winstanley, B. Ed. (U of A): (Theatre Production/Technical Director) Dave is the Technical Director for the Performing Arts Theatre and an instructor in the Technical Theatre program. He has served as Technical Director or Production Manager, for most of the major professional theatre companies in Vancouver. He has worked in all facets of the entertainment industry, from music to film, and has designed scenery and lighting for numerous Cap Theatre productions. Dave also teaches seminars on production management, for various arts and educational organizations.
Sylvia Zaradic (B. Mus, UBC) Musical Theatre/PMTI is a graduate of the music program from the University of British Columbia where she completed a degree in classical singing performance. Sylvia also studied in the music program at Capilano University and was a member of the inaugural lineup of “NiteCap” vocal jazz ensemble for two years. This past summer, Sylvia had the privilege of performing in the world premier production of the musical The Bird & the Waterfall. Past theatre credits include: Frau Kost (Cabaret), Janet (Waiting for the Parade), the “Acid Queen” (Tommy) “Ellie Greenwich” (Leader of the Pack) Carole King’s Tapestry, “The Wicked Witch of the West” (The Wizard of Oz) “Sister Amnesia” (Nunsense) “Miss Stacy” (Anne of Green Gables), “Tina” (Tony & Tina’s Wedding). Some performance highlights include: lead vocalist with the 15th Field Royal Canadian Artillery Big Band, the Du Maurier International Jazz Festival, the Palm Springs International Film Festival and Toronto’s Ashkenaz Festival with Klezmer-fusion band Olam. In 1998 Sylvia recorded her debut CD with Olam, entitled “Foreign Dreams”, which earned her two West Coast Music Award nominations. As a Voice-Over actor, Sylvia has provided animated voices for over 20 cartoons, including Inspector Gadget, X-Men, Sitting Ducks and EA Games. Sylvia is the founder and Artistic Director of Pure Vocal Studios where she provides singing and performance instruction to aspiring singers, actors and dancers in preparation for competitions, auditions and performances.
