Health Care Assistant Certificate

  • Why should you come into the Health Care Assistant Program?

    • There is a high job success rate. Ninety-two percent (92%) of Capilano University's Health Care Assistant (HCA) graduates are employed in the field of their choosing.*
    • It can be a stepping stone into nursing. Students get experience in the health care environment during the HCA program; especially during their practicums in care facilities. Many have gone on to a Bachelor of Nursing degree or Licensed Practical Nursing diploma.
    • Our classrooms include a health lab. Students gain hands-on experience to learn and practice their skills right on campus! The lab is equipped with 10 beds, lifts, mobility aids, mannequins and all the features that students will find in a care facility.
    • Capilano University's HCA program has achieved recognition status by the B.C. Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry. Why is this important? This means our program graduates can register with the database and find work right away.
    • It is an 8 month full-time program which is offered in an accelerated program and can be completed in 7 months of study.

    What will you learn?

    • The HCA program combines theory courses, lab skills and clinical practicums in actual health care settings.
    • You will learn to provide personal care to clients and residents in complex care, specialized dementia care, selected acute care settings and in the community.
