Capilano University is a special purpose, teaching university governed by the University Act. The university is composed of a chancellor, a convocation, a board, a senate and faculties.
Capilano University operates under a bicameral system of governance - the Board of Governors and Senate. The management, administration and control of the property, revenue, business and affairs of the university are vested in the Board. The academic governance of the university is vested in the Senate.

Capilano University is named after Chief Joe Capilano, an important leader of the Squamish (Sḵwx̱wú7mesh) Nation of the Coast Salish people. We respectfully acknowledge that our campuses are located on the territories of the Lil’wat, Musqueam, Sechelt (shíshálh), Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh Nations.
