Capilano University uses PUMA –
Utility Monitoring and Analysis software from Prism Engineering (www.prismengineering.com) to track
and report on utility consumption and costs.
Good utility monitoring involves
adjustments for weather, as you can see how much it varies from the figure at
right. The PUMA software and service does this by comparing the results
of a prior “baseline” year with the energy consumption this year and adjusts
for weather using a linear regression determined mathematical
equation. Any weather adjusted reduction in energy use this year
compared to a prior year is savings.
These reports are monthly
delivered “Exception Reports” - designed to highlight consumption that is
exceptional – much higher or lower than the baseline period. They
provide 3 key sections:
