We’ve done it again! For the sixth year in a row, Capilano University’s operations were carbon neutral in 2016. Like all provincial public sector organizations, we are mandated under the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Targets Act to measure our emissions, work to reduce them as much as possible, offset the remainder, and report on our progress annually. The Provincial Climate
Action Plan legislation requires us to report our emissions in three key areas:
order to become carbon neutral, we purchase carbon offsets to mitigate our GHG
emissions. One carbon offset represents the reduction of one metric tonne of
carbon dioxide or its equivalent (CO2e) from the atmosphere as a result of
emission-reducing activities. Capilano U, together with other public sector
organizations, purchased offsets from the Provincial Government for the 2016 reporting year. Our combined purchases provide seed
investments in projects that help drive the growth of B.C.’s low-carbon
